Standing up to fight hunger

Feed Nova Scotia is recruiting people to literally make a stand against poverty on Hunger Awareness Day.

Feed Nova Scotia is recruiting people to literally make a stand against poverty on Hunger Awareness Day.

On June 1, the food bank will hold rallies in Halifax, Bridgewater, Amherst and Sydney to raise awareness for the hungry.

In Halifax, Feed Nova Scotia wants people to line up starting at the entrance to Province House on Hollis Street from 12:30 p.m. Bridgewater already has 500 participants signed up, but Halifax is lagging behind.

Organizers are hoping hundreds of people will line up along Hollis Street, up Prince Street and down Barrington Street to create a visible symbol of the 40,000 Nova Scotians who use food banks each month.

Speech
Marilyn More, minister for labour and workforce development, will speak at Province House at 1 p.m.
