Star Huskie off-limits

The Saint Mary’s Huskies are shutting down media requests for interviews with Atlantic University Sport player of the year Jahmeek Taylor.

Taylor, a dynamic slotback/returner who was suspended for Saturday’s Loney Bowl because of an off-field breach of the athletic department’s code of conduct, has been reinstated for this Saturday’s Mitchell Bowl in Calgary.

Head coach Steve Sumarah said he has decided no media will be permitted to talk to Taylor this week, even if questions are limited specifically to the Huskies’ matchup with the heavily favoured Calgary Dinos.

“I don’t want anybody talking to him,” Sumarah said.

Taylor, a Mississauga, Ont., native who is in his third season at Saint Mary’s, had 1,439 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns in eight games this season. His on-field presence is critical for the Huskies.

“He’s a hell of a player and he’s done everything we asked of him and then some,” said Taylor’s teammate, tailback Devon Jones. “I think he’s excited to be playing, he’s rested and we’re just going to try and let him shine like we always do.”
