The Carquest Pro Stock Tour will try to fire up its engines once again.
The Carquest season opens Saturday at Riverside International Speedway near Antigonish with the Ron MacGillivray 100, two weeks after the scheduled season-opener at Scotia Speedworld was rained out.
Enfield’s Shawn Turple won his first tour title last year and is back to defend it.
He’ll face stiff competition from fellow past champions Shawn Tucker of Fredericton, N.B.; John Flemming of Halifax; and Wayne Smith of Timberlea.
Tucker, Flemming and Smith, along with Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, N.B., were last year’s top five finishers.
The tour hasn’t had a repeat winner since Flemming won back-to-back crowns in 2002 and 2003.
