If you live by green values, why should it be different when your final farewell comes, says Eco Coffin, which makes coffins from recycled material.
The U.K.-based company, which is challenging the traditional funeral industry, uses a cardboard derivative called NatureBoard, which is made from recycled cardboard to build coffins fit for cremation or burial, leaving no harmful emissions behind.
Founder Sophie Dansie and her husband, Ben, came up with the idea in 2001 after a friend’s funeral.
Managing director Nick Brealey says: “Choosing an Eco Coffin is not only a responsible choice in itself but also makes an important statement to future generations.
“We have developed a flat-pack coffin, which we can ship flat-pack in bulk to distributors. We are currently searching for North American distributors.”
