The Halifax Mooseheads have extended the contract of head coach and general manager Cam Russell for one more season.
Coming off consecutive last-place finishes and losses in 104 of the past 136 games, Mooseheads majority owner Bobby Smith confirmed yesterday he was keeping Russell around in 2010-11 for a fifth season as a head coach and second as GM in a move that was generally assumed.
The deal had been done since last month but the move was kept behind closed doors until this week.
Russell has a career head coaching record of 106-143-9-18 with a winning percentage of .384. Only Danny Grant (1997-98, .379) has a lower winning percentage as a head coach of the Mooseheads.
