Stepfather arrested after B.C. girl, five, killed in Washington

A five-year-old Abbotsford girl has died in Washington state after her stepfather allegedly slit her throat.

Peter James Wilson, 29, from Abbotsford, is accused of killing Clare Shelswell at a holiday home in Hoodsport, west of Seattle.

The girl’s mother, Sarah Wilson, found the girl on Sunday night after her husband told her “not to worry” and allegedly took the girl into the kitchen to discipline her.

According to court documents filed yesterday, Peter Wilson admitted to cutting the little girl’s throat.

The couple told police Wilson is taking medication for a bipolar disorder.

In a statement released to the media, Sarah Wilson asked for privacy as she mourns her daughter’s death.
