I disagree with (Prime Minister) Stephen Harper when he declares that Canadians won’t support a green plan that will "destroy our living standard."


Our "living standard" will ultimately be dictated by the earth’s ability to give us food, water, and shelter in perpetuity.


If our society engages in economic activities that destroy that ability then we must alter or stop those activities, and I would be happy to make sacrifices toward that end.


People have been called on to make great sacrifices in the name of something important before, and it would be refreshing for a politician to ask us to do that now, but then Stephen Harper would be alienating those who he really represents: Oil companies and businesses that rely on depleting our resources for their profits.

It is he who is resistant to making serious changes, not regular Canadians.
