RCMP Major Crimes is investigating after a man died in custody Wednesday at the Gleichen RCMP detachment.
According to police the Vulcan RCMP responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male causing a disturbance at the Vulcan Hospital in the evening hours of May 12.
Police said the man had been admitted to the hospital, but was being discharged for being extremely intoxicated and abusive to staff.
The man was arrested by Vulcan RCMP for causing a disturbance and transported to the Gleichen RCMP detachment, where it was noted the man was in medical distress, police said.
EMS was called and after resuscitation attempts, the 47-year-old man from Strathmore was pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP said the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team would not be investigating the death.
