RCMP are investigating a taxi hijacking which reportedly occurred on Calgary's outer limits this morning.

Around 9 a.m. this morning, Strathmore RCMP were notified of an incident that had just occurred on Wrangler Way, east of Calgary and north of Glenmore Trail.

The investigation is still in preliminary stages, but police believe a taxi driver had stopped to assist two males, one of whom was bleeding.

The two individuals then attempted to apprehend the vehicle. The taxi driver attempted to fend the culprits off and suffered cuts to his hands. He was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

RCMP spokesperson Patrick Webb said investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the incident was a staged attack.

"With the injuries to the taxi driver, we have not been able to sit down and get all the details from him," he added.

The stolen taxi was located soon after in the Falconridge area. One suspect was found and arrested while the other remains unaccounted for.
