A group of lucky children got to spend Wednesday afternoon playing floor hockey with one of Edmonton’s heroes.

Edmonton Oiler Jason Strudwick laced up his running shoes and took to the gym floor for a few games with the students at Mother Teresa Elementary at 10545–92 St. “It is important for me to help out community members here,” said Strudwick.

This is the third year in a row Strudwick has visited the school and is happy with the relationship he is beginning to form with the children.

“It is nice to watch them grow up,” said Strudwick.

Strudwick and his wife are involved with a number of child-based charities throughout the city.

Khatidja Khalfan, director of programming for the Edmonton Inner City Children’s Program, said after school programs like this one are important to these kids and parents.

“Parents know their children are safe after school,” said Khalfan.

Khalfan says it also helps to have someone like Strudwick on board. “The kids really love him, they all pile on him,” said Khalfan.
