Student emails lead to ex-teacher’s arrest for child pornography

UPDATE: Lawrence Keyte’s name was cleared in March 2011 when charges against him were stayed in court. A CTV Ottawa report stated that Keyte’s lawyers said “he has been stigmatized by the charges and he is pleased to move forward with his life.” The article that follows is from June 2010 when the charges were first pressed.

A former teacher with the Ottawa Carleton District School Board is facing child pornography charges.

On June 22, the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Section has charged a 46-year-old Wakefield man with possession of child pornography, mischief, and using a computer to facilitate an offence against a person under the age of 18.

The investigation that lead to the charges began in February 2010 after allegations of an inappropriate exchange of electronic photographs and emails between a student and a teacher employed by the Ottawa District School Board during 2007 and 2008.

Lawrence Keyte appeared in court yesterday.
