Students aim to freeze at Chillin’ 4 Charity

Bearing their bits to the elements, yesterday students at the University of Alberta held a polar dip to raise funds for the United Way.

Hundreds clustered around the University’s central quad to watch “Chillin’ 4 Charity,” as costume-wearing jumpers hopped into an ice-filled pool.

“Today I am going to do a ‘backwards angel’ to get the maximum splash,” said Mike Percy, dean of the school of business. “I would actually like to include others sitting there.”

While temperatures stayed above zero degrees, most were hesitant to get in the pool.

“I am just going to try to not scream too loud,” said student Jennifer Bennett. “The ice chunks are a little disconcerting.”
