Students in city, across Ontario raise voices to celebrate music

The sound of 800 young voices singing in harmony rang through city hall yesterday as children from 15 local schools and three choirs took part in Music Monday.

The annual event is organized by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada to celebrate the power of music programs in schools and highlight their importance through performances in communities across the country.

The noon-hour concert featured bilingual renditions of Ode to Joy, Song for Canada, and the Music Monday theme song, Sing, Sing, written by Juno-winning singer Serena Ryder.

Students from 946 schools and organizations from Ontario participated in the sixth annual event yesterday.
