NOTTINGHAM – Nice guys get the girl in the end, according to scientists at the U.K.’s University of Nottingham. Qualities like selflessness and empathy became part of the human genetic make-up because they had proven attractive to mates over the eons, said Dr. Tim Phillips.
Early on, he said, qualities such as strength and stamina were valued because they aided in food collection. But over time, softer human qualities became valued — such as a man helping with the raising of children, he added.
