Sunday night: the comfort-eating danger zone

Sunday evening is a danger time for over eating Sunday evening is a dangerous time for overeating.

The three hours between 7 and 10 p.m. Sunday are the most dangerous time of the week for comfort eating, according to a survey.

The European food company Forza questioned hundreds of customers and found that Sunday evening was when they were most likely to reach for foods with high fat and sugar.

Nearly half — 48 percent — said they overate then. Other popular times were between 5 and 7 p.m. each afternoon, with Mondays the most likely weekday when careful diet plans went out of the window.

Most overeating happened at or after dinner time, Forza said, where respondents were more likely to consume more than two units of extra food after a meal — a unit being counted as a packed of chips, a cookie, a piece of toast or a chocolate snack.

The survey said much overeating was often work-related, with 65 per cent of those surveyed saying they reached for the cookie jar if they had a bad day at work — or if they anticipated one.
