Natural health products company SunOpta Inc. says it will sell its Canadian food distribution assets to a U.S.-based natural food chain for $68 million.

The Brampton-based food manufacturer said yesterday it has entered a definitive agreement with United Natural Foods Inc. to sell part of the SunOpta Distribution Group.

Steve Bromley, president and chief executive of SunOpta, said the asset sale is part of the company’s strategy to focus on its core food manufacturing platform and strengthen its balance sheet.
