Even an afternoon downpour couldn’t dampen the spirits of thousands of people who flocked to Lansdowne Park for the first day of SuperEx on Thursday.

“The rain wasn’t a problem at all,” said Rebecca Crow, marketing manager for the fair. “It got all the people into the pavilion buildings so they could see the historical exhibits and the agriculture exhibits in Aberdeen Pavilion.”

As soon as the rain stopped, people were right back out on the rides, said Crow.

SuperEx is celebrating its last year at Lansdowne Park with a historical display set up in the Coliseum Building.

There is a demolition derby scheduled for the closing day on Aug. 29.
