Superfood: Coconuts

Coconuts are one of the most versatile superfoods. According to raw food nutritionist Christina Agnew, coconut water is nature’s very own sports drink.

Low in calories, the water is loaded with electrolytes such as potassium. Agnew’s advice is to go for the young green coconuts rather than the brown for their sweeter taste. Coconut oil, or butter, is made up of medium chain fatty acids, and more likely to be used as an energy source than to be stored as fat. Coconut oil is also great for removing make up and moisturizing skin since it has anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.
