Superstars lined up for Chamber Music Fest

National and international superstars of music will descend on Ottawa when the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival returns to the capital for the 17th year.

Festival organizers announced the lineup for the festival, which runs from July 24 to Aug. 7. It includes an opening night recital by international vocal superstar, mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade; a rare opportunity to hear all 32 of the Beethoven piano sonatas performed by young Canadian pianist Stewart Goodyear; Constantinople, a multi-media spectacle featuring the Gryphon Trio against a backdrop of projected visuals created by a team of leading Canadian theatre artists; violinist Isabelle Faust and virtuoso pianist Alexander Tselyakov.

Coming to Ottawa for the first time are a capella French ensemble Ludus Modalis and all-male vocal ensemble Barbara Furtuna.

In addition to performances, Chamberfest’s other features include Musical Musings with musicologist Harry Halbreich and Young People’s Concerts, an introduction to classical music for children of all ages.

Enrichment activities include Late Night at Saint Brigid’s, which is a chance for audiences and artists to meet, and free concerts on the grounds of Rideau Hall, Canal Music 2010, and the Musical Breeze Bicycle Parade, held in partnership with the Rideau Canal Festival.
