Supreme Court spurns women ski jumpers’ last-ditch Olympics bid

Olympic ski jumping is officially an all-boys’ club after Canada’shighest court quashed female jumpers’ last-ditch bid to compete in the2010 Games.

Olympic ski jumping is officially an all-boys’ club after Canada’s highest court quashed female jumpers’ last-ditch bid to compete in the 2010 Games.

The Supreme Court of Canada has decided not to hear arguments in the case of a group of elite women jumpers who sued VANOC for the right to jump in the Vancouver Olympics.

“We are very disappointed,” said Ross Clark, the lawyer for the women.

“The textbook gender discrimination found by the lower-court judge should have been examined by the highest court in the land.”

Deedee Corradini, president of Women’s Ski Jumping USA, said the jumpers will be taking their fight to the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia.

“No qualified athlete should be denied the right to participate in the Olympics because of gender,” she said.
