Surrey teen shot in drive-by dies

A Surrey teenager who was hit in a drive-by shooting near 124 Street and Boundary Drive South has died in hospital, RCMP announced on Thursday.

The victim and a friend were parked on the side of the road around noon on Wednesday when a dark-coloured vehicle drove up beside them and shot at their car, said RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr.

“The friend, who was in the driver’s position, immediately began to flee the area upon hearing the shots ring out,” Carr said.

“The driver noticed that his friend in the passenger seat was in severe medical distress and transported him to Surrey Memorial Hospital immediately.”

The victim was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital, where he later died.

“Investigators are of the belief at this time that this incident is not a random shooting,” said Carr.

“Investigators have not yet identified if the incident has links to drugs, gangs or organized crime.”

A dark coloured vehicle — possibly green — was seen fleeing the area east on 60th Avenue from Boundary Drive South.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police or CrimeStoppers.
