Halifax Regional Police say an 18-year-old man from Eastern Passage is facing numerous charges including dangerous driving and fleeing police after an early-morning incident in Dartmouth yesterday.

Police say at about 2 a.m., they received a report of an “erratic driver” in a small white car in the area of Highfield Park Drive. Officers located the vehicle on Victoria Road and attempted to pull the car over, but police say the driver refused to stop and fled outbound towards Magazine Hill.

They pursued the car for a short period, “however, the pursuit was terminated due to the speed of the suspect vehicle,” a police release said yesterday. The vehicle was then spotted 10 minutes later driving inbound on Magazine Hill, but police lost sight of it again when the suspect managed to avoid a spike belt near Burnside Business Park.

Fifteen minutes after that, police say they spotted the car again -- this time on Albro Lake Road -- and the driver again refused to pull over. Police say they pursued the vehicle onto Woodland Avenue “where the driver came to a sudden stop.”

A police car following behind then clipped the rear of the suspect’s vehicle. The driver was then taken into custody without incident.
