City police arrested a male suspect and took him into custody yesterday afternoon in the murder investigation of a woman whose body was found near Franklin Station.
The victim’s body was also positively identified by fingerprint yesterday, after traditional means had failed at the medical examiner’s office.
City cops identified the city’s fourth homicide of the year as 41-year-old Arcelie Sombrito de Laoagan — widely speculated after she went missing last Thursday night.
Kevin Brookwell, manager of the media relations for the CPS, spoke on behalf of homicide and confirmed the body was that of Laoagan.
“The family will be getting the body back and will be taking her to the Philippines where the funeral service will be held,” Brookwell said.
The medical examiner worked with the woman’s family and the Philippines consulate to match her fingerprints.
Investigators now believe Laoagan was last seen boarding the LRT on 8th St SW and then exited at Franklin Station where she was found dead nearby the next morning.
“We’re asking the public to identify if they were on the platforms along 7 and 8th St. and Franklin Station. There was a lot of activity going on and the police would like people to come forward and identify if they were there,” Brookwell said.
Police found one of the two items missing from Laoagan’s body, her boot, on Tuesday.
