Suspect shot by Vancouver police officer

A man was shot by police in East Vancouver last night.

He suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital after being hit by the single shot fired by police.

Officers arrived at Union Street and Dunleavy Avenue, near the east end of the Georgia Viaduct, at about 5 p.m. looking for a stolen Ford F350 pickup truck.

A man attempted to flee after an unmarked police car blocked his escape route. He continued to spin his tires even as the truck was boxed in by other police cars, police said.

According to Const. Jana McGuinness, that’s when an officer fired a single shot, which hit the man.
