Halifax RCMP are trying to determine if the robbery of a Scotia Bank in Lower Sackville Tuesday morning where the male suspect wore a Spiderman mask could be related to a hold up at a Subway restaurant in Eastern Passage over the weekend.
Police responded to a report Tuesday of a robbery at the bank on Sackville Drive at 10:30 a.m. Police say a man wearing a Halloween type mask entered the branch, demanded money and then fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He was carrying a red Zellers bag towards the Leaside Drive and Seawood Avenue area of Lower Sackville after leaving the bank, police say, but wasn’t located.
“We had a K-9 unit over and everything. We searched the area quite extensively, but no luck” Halifax RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said Tuesday.
On Saturday night, police say a man wearing a similar Spiderman-like mask held up a Subway restaurant on Cow Bay Road around 9 p.m. A knife was used in that robbery and the suspect left with a small amount of money. No weapon was scene in Tuesday’s robbery, Taplin confirmed.
The suspect in yesterday’s robbery is described as a five-foot-seven man who was wearing a black hoodie. The suspect description by police in Saturday’s robbery is a white male in his 20s, between five-foot-seven and five-foot-10 and around 150 pounds.
“The similarities are close, so we would never rule it out,” Taplin said. “There are enough similarities that we’ll look at to see whether the two robberies are linked.”
There were no injuries in either incident.
