Suspected pedophile Orville Mader, accused of sexually abusing boys in Thailand, was granted $5,000 bail in an Abbotsford court yesterday.
The 54-year-old was ordered to stay away from children unless he’s under supervision of an adult appointed by the court, CBC News Online reports.
Originally from Kitchener, Ont., Mader had been living in Surrey before travelling to Thailand.
On Oct. 21, Thai police issued an arrest warrant for Mader after an eight-year-old boy said he was kidnapped and sexually abused in the town of Pattaya.
Mader was arrested at Vancouver International Airport on Nov. 1, after arriving on a plane from Asia.
Authorities have been holding Mader under a protective order after a provincial court judge ruled he could be a threat to children. He faces no criminal charges in Canada.
His lawyer said he is being held based on information "from Asia."
Mader is due back in court in three weeks for an arraignment hearing.
