Rapper Michael George likely didn’t see his killer until it was much too late.

The Scarborough singer was shot point-blank in the head and chest at least four times as he emerged from his Malibu at 3:30 a.m. yesterday.

As the gunman fled in a silver car, George’s girlfriend, who had heard the rapid-fire shots, ran out to the driveway of their co-op townhouse near Morningside Avenue and Sewells Road, near the Toronto Zoo, to find him slumped in the blood-soaked driver’s seat. It is Toronto’s 46th homicide this year.

Homicide Det.-Sgt. Steve Ryan said it appears George was a hard-working musician and every bit the “sweet and gentle” man friends and family remember.

He said George had no known criminal or gang connections and police had had no contact with him.

  • Michael George’s death comes days after a meeting with police and Councillor Raymond Cho in the co-op clubhouse to “discuss the recent shootings in the co-ops.”
