Neil MacNeil knows it all comes down to one thing when booking a flight.

“The price of a ticket — that is the number one issue,” said the CEO of the J.A.D. McCurdy Sydney Airport. “People would rather leave their car here and not have to drive to Halifax and catch that flight to Toronto and so it’s all about price.”

MacNeil said most people in Cape Breton will drive to Halifax to get a cheaper flight. But last year — thanks in part to WestJet operating on a seasonal basis out of Sydney for the first time — there were a few more people choosing to fly out of the local airport rather than Halifax.

MacNeil said 119,552 passengers went through the Sydney terminal in 2009, up from 110,709 in 2008.
