Syncrude Canada has been fined $365,000 for the death of a worker in northern Alberta.

Thomas Miller, who was 48, died Dec. 31, 2008, at the Mildred Lake processing plant when he was struck by a slab of ice weighing hundreds of kilograms.

Syncrude pleaded guilty to one charge under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

A spokesperson said most of the money will go to developing a new course at Keyano College in Fort McMurray and $100,000 will go to scholarships in Miller’s name.
