Taboo show hails ‘raunchy bunch’

The notion that sex sells is not lost on the organizers of Taboo — the Naughty But Nice show coming to Edmonton this weekend.

The “upscale” consumer trade show dedicated to romance and self-improvement is in its ninth year at Northlands, and seems to get a little bigger every year, organizers say.

“The Edmonton show always tends to be a little wilder then the Calgary show,” said Taboo manager Darryl Rosengreen. “You’re a bit of a rowdy, raunchy bunch up there.”

Rosengreen said he expects about 20,000 people to take in the various sex toy booths, exotic dance demonstrations and body painting exhibitions over Taboo’s three days.

“Calgary’s show was completely packed this year so we’re expecting nothing less up there this weekend,” he said.

Aradia Fitness owner Kystal Wall says the a poll-dancing studio for women who are looking for a little sexiness in their workouts, making it an ideal sponsor for Taboo Edmonton.

“The Taboo show brings in a lot of people,” Wall said. “It’s moved in to more of a sexy atmosphere, that’s more than just about sex.”

Aradia will have a booth in the trade show as well as put on daily performances on the stage and offering chair and lap dancing seminars for anyone interested.

“There are a lot of sexy places for people to go in Edmonton so they embrace the Taboo show,” Wall said. “It’s such a comfortable atmosphere that you can ask any question you want, or you can walk through and not say a word to anybody and go to a seminar and learn something that will totally change your life.”
