Take a run for the troops

The Canadian military is looking to recruit runners and walkers of all ages for support in the Loops for Troops Run.

The run, sponsored by The Running Room, will be at the Namao Base on Sunday, July 26 at 9 a.m. to raise money for the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre.

The event entails a five-kilometre walk and run, a 10-kilometre run, or a military mile walk (1.6 km).

“Last year Calgary raised over $150,000, so we’d like to meet or beat that; it will provide funds to support services that are offered and develop new programs,” said OCDT. Sarah Keller.

The Military Family Resource Centre provides support for families of military personnel, dealing with deployments, coping with injury or loss, and the general toll that is taken on the families.

However, those who cannot be there for the run are asked to be there in “spirit” by donating to the cause.

Media attended a military mile run yesterday, and keeping up with military-trained athletes is certainly a task.

“We believe in supporting the community as much as possible. We like to help people do things like this and supply the equipment for them and give them as much advice as we can,” said Arthur Warman, Edmonton events manager for the Running Room.
