Take a tar sands vacation

Vying for your valuable vacation dollar is yet another gimmick: a website offering travel packs to the oil sands.

Instead of the crystal sands of the Caribbean, www.travellingalberta.com is a tongue-in-cheek
website suggesting undecided sightseers head north to hear cannons sound each morning to ward off wildlife from the tailing ponds, full of toxic water leftovers.

Developed to draw attention to the environmental dangers of dirty oil, this comes at a time when even mayors from the States are taking a stand against the sands.

“Any visitor to the Alberta tar sands can see the pollution, smell the sulfur, taste the toxins and hear the air cannons — we’re saving them the trip,” said Mike Hudema with GreenPeace.
