Take along these audiobooks on your Thanksgiving travels

Planning to drive over the river and through the woods to Grandma’s
house for Thanksgiving this year? Whether you’re traveling with kids,
teens or a carful of friends, here are some listens that are guaranteed
to make the miles fly by.

“Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)” by Mindy Kaling, read by the author

Kaling,
who writes for “The Office” and appears onscreen as Kelly Kapoor,
brings her offbeat sense of humor to this collection of essays and
musings. Listen out for cameos by her Office costars B.J. Novak and
Mike Schur and friend Brenda Withers.

“The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern, read by Jim Dale

Morgenstern’s
debut novel follows a magical circus that is a training ground for two
dueling magicians. Full of wonder, romance and drama and read by Jim
Dale, whose voice you may know from the Harry Potter audiobooks, this
engrossing story will keep the “are we there yet?” questions at bay for
hours.

“Inheritance” by Christopher Paolini, read by Gerard Doyle

The final
book in Paolini’s fantasy will last through the longest of road
trips—clocking in at 31 hours, “Inheritance” concludes Eragon and
Saphira’s dragon-riding adventures with an epic battle against the evil
king Galbatorix.

“The Heroes of Olympus, Book Two: The Son of Neptune” by Rick Riordan, read by Joshua Swanson

A
great family listen, this follow-up to THE LOST HERO picks up with
demigods Jason, Piper and Leo as they meet the new kid on the block,
who appears to be the son of Neptune, god of the sea. Riordan, a
teacher, includes classical Greek mythology along with plenty of humor
and action in his tales.

“I Am Half-Sick of Shadows” by Alan Bradley, read by Jayne Entwistle

Get
in the holiday mood a little early with Flavia de Luce, a precocious
eleven-year-old sleuth with a passion for chemistry and a penchant for
crime-solving , as she whips up a concoction to ensnare Saint Nick in
her laboratory—but it’s not long before a mystery comes calling and
Flavia’s detective skills are needed to identify the suspect.
