Taking a microscope to contracts

Kanata North Coun. Marianne Wilkinson wants to see more details of city contracts, in order to spot work which could be done just as well by staff.

“If we can’t find ways of creating efficiencies in this area, which is almost half our expenditures over the year coming out in these contracts, then we’re not going to get very far,” she said yesterday at the Corporate Services and Economic Development meeting.

The city spent $291.2 million on contracts in the second quarter of 2010.
