The streets of London will draw hundreds of thousands spectators on Friday for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but smart royal-watchers will head to Wales after the honeymoon to catch a glimpse of the duo. The newlyweds reside in Anglesey, a tranquil island on the northern tip of the country. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the isle is also the legendary home of Dwynwen, Wales’ patron saint of lovers. Plas Newydd
While Will and Kate’s new home might be off-limits, visitors are welcome at this 14th-century royal residence, still home to the seventh Marquess of Anglesey. Tour the gardens, retreat to the tea room or take in the imperial views.
Beaumaris Castle

Marquess of Anglesey’s Column
Stunning views sit 115 steps up this 88-foot structure in Llanfairpwll, the town’s shortened name. The real name contains 58 letters and roughly translates to “St. Mary’s Church by the white hazel pool near the fierce whirlpool and the church of St. Tysilio by the red cave.”

With 125 miles of coastal pathways, walking is a celebrated pastime in Anglesey. Explore the trails on your own or with a guide; better yet, join the island’s annual walking festival between May 28 and June 12.

Anglesey offers a beach for every taste, from quiet sandy stretches to rugged rocky cliffs. The big waves and big winds of Rhosneigr make it the favorite spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing, while puffins, porpoises and rare birds make their home at the South Stack Nature Reserve.

On Friday, the Welsh capital of Cardiff will host over 30 street parties throughout the city — the most anywhere outside of London. Expect food, drink, live music, games and performances all day and all night to toast the royal nuptials. Here are a few highlights:
