A local potato chip plant may have bit off more than it can chew after it locked out dozens of workers, says the union boss.

Doug O’Halloran, president of UFCW Local 401, said 170 workers locked out of the city’s Old Dutch plant after talks broke down are ready to fight if the labour battle comes to a crunch.

“We will not go quietly,” he said. “Old Dutch has severely underestimated the workers’ resolve.”

O’Halloran said the main sticking point is the company’s refusal to make union dues mandatory.
