Tall ships and long tongues mean big business for hotels

Tall ships and long tongues are expected to draw so many people to Halifax this summer that hotel rooms will be hard to find.

The recently announced Kiss concert happens to fall over the week of the 2009 Tall Ships festival, which is expecting to bring up to one million visitors.

It’s only been a couple days since the Kiss announcement, but it’s already caused a spike in hotel bookings.

“We have people calling looking for rooms for the concert. Also there’s more people calling for Tall Ships, presumably because they heard about the concert and wanted to guarantee rooms by booking early,” said Barry Walsh, reservation manager for the Lord Nelson Hotel.

Walsh said the hotel was already expecting occupancy to be high in that period before the Kiss concert, but now every hotel across the city is getting close to being booked. He said people who plan on renting a room should do it soon.
