Team Canada all set for road to gold repeat

Canada’s roster for the IIHF world hockey championship was finalized on the weekend in Quebec City.

The team named Shane Doan of the Phoenix Coyotes as captain and Steve Staios and Martin St. Louis as assistants. Doan, a 31-year-old right-winger, captained Canada to a gold medal at last year’s world championship in Moscow.

The team also added defencemen Mike Green of the Washington Capitals and Dan Hamhuis of the Nashville Predators, and now has a 25-man roster, including two reserves.

Ray Whitney will miss the tournament due to injury.

Canada beat Finland 3-2 on Saturday in exhibition play at Pepsi Colisee. The tournament opens on Friday in Halifax.
