Teddy bears to have day in the sun at CHEO’s family picnic

It’s one of the only times that bears are not only welcome at a picnic, but when they’re the guests of honour.

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario’s 26th annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic is held on the grounds of Rideau Hall Saturday. The event, hosted by the CHEO and the CHEO Foundation as a thank you to hospital supporters, is an annual tradition.

The event starts at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast and includes the popular B*A*S*H Tent (Bear Ambulatory Surgical Hospital), where children are invited to bring their teddy bears and other stuffed animals for checkups and minor repairs; a parade of mascots at 9:30 a.m.; and carnival games, children’s rides, clowns, face painting and free tours of the Governor General’s residence. Most entertainment is free. Children can also make a teddy bear for $12 at the Build a Buddy tent.

Shuttle buses will bring visitors from the Canadian Aviation Museum throughout the day.
