A 15-year-old girl has died after being badly beaten in broad daylight in a Delta park.
Laura Szendrei was walking through Mackie Park to meet up with friends on Saturday afternoon when she was attacked.
She died in hospital yesterday morning.
Const. Sharlene Brooks would not confirm reports that Szendrei was beaten with a bat, nor whether the attack was targeted or random.
“Delta police … have been working through the night processing the crime scene, and still have the area cordoned off to allow investigators to search for anything of evidentiary value,” she said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with (Laura’s friends and family) at this most difficult time of unspeakable loss and grief.”
Investigators are looking for a man, aged 16 to 25, who may have information. He was wearing a white, short-sleeved shirt and cargo shorts and may have been carrying a backpack.
