Details revealed by police yesterday in a sexual assault case showed that a teenage boy and young girl had previously chatted online and arranged their meeting.
Around 5 p.m. Monday, police were called to Clarence Sansom School in Pineridge, where they learned a 16-year-old boy had allegedly assaulted a 12-year-old girl.
“They agreed to meet at the park,” said Staff Sgt. Leah Barber. “This wasn’t a random attack by a group of kids.”
Barber said there were eight other teens between the ages of 12 and 16 who witnessed the incident.
“While the group was sitting in the bleachers, the girl and boy became involved in a sexual act,” she said, adding police believe parties involved had been drinking alcohol.
Police have yet to interview the victim. However, Barber said because the girl is 12 and the suspect is more than two years her senior, the act cannot be considered consensual.
Charges are pending against the 16-year-old, though Barber said there is a possibility that no charges will be laid.
Barber said there is no evidence the eight others involved encouraged the alleged assault, or possessed any photos or video of the act.
