Teen girls lucky to be alive after passing out on train tracks: Police

Police say two 14-year-old girls, who were found passed out on railway tracks in White Rock, were lucky that officers were able to stop an oncoming train just metres away from the teens.

RCMP were called to the tracks west of High Street around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, after receiving a report that a drunk teenager had tripped, fallen down the embankment and hit her head.

“Upon arrival, police found not only a female on the rocks, but a second 14-year-old female who was unresponsive and lying in the centre of the tracks with a westbound train approaching,” said Const. Janelle Canning.

“(Police) were able to stop the oncoming train within only metres of the unconscious female. Both females were transported to Peace Arch Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.”

Canning said railway tracks and train yards are private property and trespassers could not only be fined $115, but be seriously injured, too.
