Teen sex assault prompts caution

Police yesterday warned parents not to let their children play in a west-end park and surrounding trails after a teen girl was sexually assaulted there.

Police say they are investigating a possible link to the attack on Tuesday and two previous suspicious incidents in the area, including one in which a man grabbed a 13-year-old girl’s buttocks.

On Tuesday afternoon, the girl was walking in Trend-Arlington Park near McLelland Road when she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted. She was taken to hospital and treated for her injuries.

Investigators want to talk to a man who was in the park at the time and may have witnessed the attack and possibly scared off the attacker.

Yesterday, Sexual Assault Section investigators canvassed residents in the Trend-Arlington Park area bordered by McLelland, Canfield and Greenbank roads in the west end as part of their probe.
