Homicide investigators in Metro Vancouver have taken over the investigation of a shooting in Surrey.

Cpl. Dale Carr says the unidentified victim has died in hospital, less than a day after he was wounded in what police say appears to be a targeted attack.

RCMP have released few details but say the incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on March 17 in a residential area of Surrey at 124 Street and 60 Avenue.

Surrey RCMP Insp. Dave Attfield told CTV News the victim, in his late teens, was a passenger in a grey pickup truck targeted by a passing vehicle.

Attfield says a green Pontiac Grand Am left the scene and there's no indication what led to the attack.

The victim was found near Surrey Memorial Hospital at around the same time as police received reports of shots fired. No arrests have been made.
