A 17-year-old boy is facing a charge of second-degree murder after a series of bizarre events rocked a suburban neighbourhood in Middle Sackville Friday.
Police say they discovered the body of an unidentified woman inside her home at 20 Hewer Cres. early in the afternoon. Investigators have not said how she died, which room she was found in, or if anyone else was inside the home when they arrived.
The teenage suspect, whose identity is protected under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was reportedly spotted walking naked along a nearby street shortly after the victim’s body was found. According to RCMP spokeswoman Const. Tamu Bracken, he was arrested and is currently being held for assessment at the IWK Forensic Unit. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Youth Court in Halifax later today.
Bracken confirmed that a series of motor vehicle accidents that occurred in the area of Hewer Crescent were linked to the events at the murder scene.
A postal delivery van parked on Rossing Drive —connected to Hewer Crescent — was struck from behind, narrowly missing a Canada Post employee who had gotten out of the vehicle moments before. A dump truck parked on Millwood Drive was also hit from behind, said Bracken. There were also unconfirmed reports of a minor car-pedestrian accident on nearby Sackville Drive.
The incident was one of two suspicious deaths that have occurred in the municipality since Friday. The second occurred at a large home in North Preston, where police discovered the body of an unidentified man after responding to two separate 911 calls. As of yesterday afternoon, the RCMP had no suspects in the case, and were still treating the matter as a suspicious death and not a homicide.
