Teens charged in toddler shooting

Hobbema RCMP have charged two teens in the shooting of a 23-month-old toddler on the weekend.
Christopher Shane Crane, 18, faces 16 criminal code charges, including aggravated assault and numerous weapons offences. He appeared in Wetaskiwin provincial court yesterday at 9:30 a.m.
A 15-year-old male young offender was also charged with aggravated assault and 14 other charges. He is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin youth court today.
RCMP described the incident as a drive-by shooting. A single bullet was fired into the kitchen of a residence on the Samson First Nation, about 75 km south of Edmonton.
The shot struck Asia Saddleback in the torso.
Doctors performed surgery on Asia but were unable to remove the bullet. She remains in critical but stable condition at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.
RCMP said the shooting was the latest in a series of “firearm related” complaints that they have dealt with on the First Samson Nation in the past three weeks.
