Telus joins Richmond in promoting skate venue

The future may be looking friendlier for the Richmond Oval as the facility introduced Telus yesterday as its new partner in the centre’s community legacy program.

The future may be looking friendlier for the Richmond Oval as the facility introduced Telus yesterday as its new partner in the centre’s community legacy program.

“It’s a milestone for our city and for the Richmond Oval,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie, on the partnership, which will focus on the facility’s summer sports.

While some Richmond city councillors worry about costs riding on taxpayers, oval general manager John Mills said the new partnership make the oval a sustainable Olympic legacy.

Other partnerships are scheduled to be announced in the beginning of the new year.

“We think the oval is going to become an Olympic factory for Canada,” Mills said. “It will be a facility where aspiring high-performance athletes get the training ... to attain international success.”
