The residents of Meat Cove can once again leave their community by land.

A temporary bridge over Salmon River was scheduled to be completed yesterday. The bridge will provide residents of the northern Cape Breton community a way out for the first time since a storm washed out the only road in on Aug. 21.

Premier Darrell Dexter visited the beleaguered community yesterday, commending the residents for “mobilizing to take care of each other and their visitors.”

Permanent road and bridge repairs will be ongoing.
