After three decades, the name Terry Fox is synonymous with hope, courage, and perseverance, not just in Canada, but around the world, said an organizer with the Terry Fox Run in Ottawa.

“It’s a very Canadian story, but what a lot of people don’t know is that Terry Fox is known around the world,” said Dave Stephens. “(The run) is held in 30 or 40 countries.

I think people around the world have a sense of how big Canada is, and when they hear the story of a young Canadian running a marathon a day across the country, well, it’s a great story.”

Ottawa hosts one of the biggest Terry Fox Run events in the country. To mark the 30th anniversary of the event, Stephens expects thousands to attend the run at Anniversary Park Sunday, or one of several other area events.
