Metro CEO and Publisher Hans Kristian “Yggers” Mortensen will be honored at VillageCare’s Legends of the Village gala in Tribeca.

Mr. Mortensen, a Denmark native with nearly two decades of management experience in the media industry, will be given The Village Business Legends Award at the 19th annual gala for his hands-on leadership. The event takes place on Nov. 13 at the Tribeca Rooftop.

His expansive career includes management in advertising, programming, broadcasting and, most recently, print and digital.

“We are proud to honor Yggers with this award not only for being a vital member of the media community, but for his creativity and innovation in helping VillageCare expand our brand awareness to the New York City region,” said Emma Devito, president and chief executive officer at VillageCare. “Yggers and his team demonstrate a great understanding of the needs of the people we serve, and as a result, provided us effective channels to reach out to them.”

Since 2008, Mr. Mortensen’s entrepreneurial spirit has helped forge the way for Metro to become the fourth-largest newspaper in the U.S. and a leading voice in the news and entertainment realm. Under his direction, Metro has seen remarkable revenue and readership growth both in print and online.

Other media legends to be honored at the gala include Emmy Award-winning host, producer and author Andy Cohen, as well as Rev. James Gardiner, S.A, who is a member of the VillageCare Board of Directors and chairman of the organization’s Client Services Committee.

VillageCare is a continuing care organization that recognizes and supports self-directed, interactive care enabling people to control aspects of their own care and help them to maintain their independence.
